Workshop Insights!

Hey guys , Happy to meet you again. Me with my friends Jo, Ebi , Jermi attended a workshop today at MCC. The workshop was titled "Academic writing and Publication in Humanities and Social Science" organised by the Department of English (SFS) , Madras Christian College.

I just want to share something that I felt truly appreciative today. Those 3 hours of knowledge is definitely worth. I felt truly thankful for the Department of English for organising such a interesting workshop.

Starting from College prayer , the beat of the event began. With no dramas , the knowledge and information flowed and flowed that made us drown. The vast information that we got today isn't easy. Actually to say ,We are just bombed with those thought triggering ideas.

The Resource person for today is DR. SATHYARAJ VENKATESAN , who hold more that 150+ publications and works as a Professor of English in the Department of Humanities and Social Science at NIT, Trichy.

He effortlessly dragged us to the world of publishing. Starting from why to publish to how to publish, he added every bit of detail that are important. For the emerging publishers he gave interesting AI tools which can be used in assisting publishing. And he made sure to teach how to cite those tools in citations. Apart from plagiarism check, He wanted us to be true to the work.

Holding 150+ publications, he just told his secret scale. The way he follows for years. He said he used to start an article and send it to journals. With no waiting, he would start next. It's seems normal until we heard, if we wait for publishing one piece of work it will surely suck our 1-1.6 years. Accepting the work isn't a easy going task. The long wait may have no value if the work got rejected. Who would ever think of waiting for years just to be rejected?

The way he handled the rejection partically, is something that made him a truly astonishing professor. For literature student, he gave some themes which is quite far away from the traditional system that is carried out for years.

He also mentioned about the importance of publishing in Scopus Index Journals rather than any paid journals. He marked a statement that most of journals do not get a single penny for publishing and he added on saying for his 150+ works he didn't even spent any  from his pocket.

He introduced us to Post-Doctoral studies which literally adds on our value on the employability scale. His points were really powerful to hold as more valuable than gold.

To just simplify, The one thing that I felt for the whole day is "INFORMATION IS WEALTH". I will be sure to use the information received, cause storing it , may just form rust.
